One Water Race and X Shore collaborate to inspire a fossil-free marine environment
August 15, 2024The world’s toughest long-distance race spreads global inspiration for fossil-free development.
For the third year in a row, the world’s toughest long-distance race, One Water Race, will be held in the Stockholm archipelago. The world’s best long-distance athletes will cover 250 kilometers nonstop, from Arholma to Landsort. The purpose of the race is to highlight the urgent environmental threat to our world’s oceans – which absorb 30 percent of the planet’s carbon dioxide emissions. It has now been confirmed that the Swedish electric boat company X Shore will become the Official Supplier to One Water Race with the aim of spreading global information and inspiration about a fossil-free marine environment. One Water Race will take place from August 20–22.
"Our aim is to use the appeal of sports to spread knowledge about our marine environment, and together with X Shore, we can concretely demonstrate that a fossil-free marine environment is possible and inspire the boating industry in its development. Together with a global player like X Shore, we can spread knowledge through media, locally and globally," says Thomas Ogander, founder of One Water Race.
A local competition format with global reach
One Water Race has quickly established itself as the world’s toughest endurance race, with a global reach spanning 190 countries over five continents. The race is a unique competition format that attracts the top long-distance athletes from around the world and puts Sweden, the Stockholm archipelago, and the critical water issue in focus both locally and globally.
"We live in a media-driven world, and we focus on attracting and captivating a broad and global audience for an important cause through a wide range of professional media formats and a unique and dramatic 65-hour live broadcast."
The world’s toughest race for the world’s toughest challenge
One Water Race is a way to highlight the One Water Foundation – an independent foundation working to accelerate various collaborative projects between the business community and the public sector to reduce the threat to our water and marine environments. The collaborative projects "Stop Fueling the Ocean" and "A Fossil-Free Archipelago" are currently underway, involving the Stockholm County Administrative Board, the Swedish Transport Agency, and the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management, among others.
"We are the world’s leading supplier of electric boats, combining Swedish maritime craftsmanship with technology, innovation, and sustainability. As the Official Supplier of One Water Race, we can concretely demonstrate change and drive the boating industry’s development towards a fossil-free marine environment," says René Hansen, CEO of X Shore.
